Crown lengthening treatment removes excess gum tissue from around one or more teeth, exposing additional tooth structure above the gumline. This procedure may be recommended for those with a “gummy” smile or to provide better access for correcting issues with decayed or broken teeth or infected gums.
During the treatment, the gums are moved away from the tooth and jawbone. If necessary, the bone is smoothed before the gums are reattached lower on the teeth. This results in more tooth structure being visible above the gumline, making the teeth appear longer and the gums less prominent.
